Years Flying Balloons - 35

When you are not flying, what do you enjoy doing?

Travel, Kayaking, wildlife photography, and concerts

Why did you become a pilot?

I bought a balloon ride in 1989 at the Danville balloon festival, talked with my pilot and other pilots about what they do. Their stories of travel and adventure intrigued me. I started lessons in 1991, got my pilot’s license in June 1991.

What do you find is the most challenging about flying a hot air balloon?

Landings are the most challenging. Especially flying over cites because of smaller spaces and power lines.

Short description of something interesting that ballooning has allowed you to do?

We have owned 3 different Special Shape balloons in our career. This has got us invited to several U.S and International events. We have done ballooning in 24 different countries and 40 of the 50 states. One of our best flights was from one of the Palm Islands in Dubai.

What do you most want the public to know/understand about hot air balloons and flying them?

That balloons are very safe if you make good weather decisions and keep your equipment in good condition.
