Years Flying Balloons - 4

When you are not flying, what do you enjoy doing?

I have spent the last two years finishing my master's degree and flying airplanes full time. Any free time I do have is spent with my husband and dog. I love swimming, beaches and palm trees.

Why did you become a pilot?

I have been flying airplanes for almost 17 years. Having always loved balloons, it wasn't until we moved to St. Louis that I met local pilots and was able to crew for them. It didn't take long to know I wanted to fly too.

What do you find is the most challenging about flying a hot air balloon?

I love the challenge ballooning brings. When flying a balloon, the steerage is from variations in the winds. This can be from changes in altitudes, weather shifts and even terrain effects.

Short description of something interesting that ballooning has allowed you to do?

I was able to go on a balloon safari in Kenya.

What do you most want the public to know/understand about hot air balloons and flying them?

Even the slightest amount of weather can affect a balloon. Often the active weather is different than the forecast. Safety is the number one priority and weather plays a main role in our decisions.
